The school grew rapidly with the continued housing development west of the railway line.
Finally in 1973 the school was renamed Kapiti Primary School and opened in February with 9 teachers, a clerical assistant and a teacher aide. During the early years the staff worked very hard at giving the school an identity as the "side school image" which persisted for many years. By the end of 1974 another block (Rooms 7 & 8) was built to cater for the older pupils as the roll had increased to 213. The netball court was also extended. Over a period of 6 years, the community raised money for a swimming pool which was opened 20 November 1981.
The school continued to grow reaching 271 pupils by the end of 1977. In 1978 the Education Boad decided that no more permanent buildings would be put on site - that relocatable classrooms would be used in the future.
In 1995 the fundraising group, along with support from the Ministry, a lotteries grant and a donation from Debo's Tavern, built the school hall pictured below.
Two new classrooms were added in 1996 to cater for new pupils. In 2004 these classrooms were converted into the current library pictured below.
The computer suite was converted into another classroom, room 11, pictured below, for the beginning of 2009, and the computers were moved to the library.
