POLICY ON MEDICINES AT SCHOOL

Medication for pupils should not be the responsibility of the school.

GUIDELINES

Medicines should be taken out of school hours.

The staff should not have the responsibility of administering drugs to pupils on a long term basis.

Where there is a special need to take medicine at school the medicine should be sent by parents to the school office with an accompanying note of instructions on how to administer the medicine.  A medical practitioner will be asked by the parent to make contact with the school so that the school receives verification of the dose and instructions.  The staff will do their utmost to administer the medicines we agree to give to a child but will not be held accountable if the child does not arrive at the appointed time.

The staff will endeavour to keep themselves informed of medical research into long term drug taking by pupils.
