POLICY ON APPEARANCE
PROCEDURES FOR APPEARANCE
This procedure is in keeping with the school's image of being a school with high standards as well as being proud of ourselves in public and in sport and cultural situations.
1. Hair must be clean and tidy, off the face and out of eyes. Dying and highlighting in unnatural colours, e.g blue, green, purple etc, is not acceptable. Dyed and/or patterned hairstyles including mohawks are also not acceptable. Styles must be appropriate to learning environment i.e. cross country, technology, swimming, gym etc. They must be able to wear a hat. Pupils can wear gel and wax.
2. Jewellery will be tolerated. Piercing will only be in the earlobes (one set of stud earrings only – and only one in each ear) not elsewhere on the body. Jewellery is worn on the understanding that it is at the owner's risk in terms of it being lost, stolen or causing injury. Safety considerations need to be adhered to e.g. jewellery and sport. The jewellery must not interfere with learning e.g. pupils playing with the jewellery endlessly. Class teachers will monitor the wearing of jewellery, as to whether the jewellery is interfering with safety and learning.
3. Make up or nail varnish may not be worn.
4. Clothing may express the wearer's individuality but only within the bounds of good taste (teacher discretion). The clothing must be sun-safe clothing.
5. This policy is gender equal.
